What this lookup checks
A checksum check is useful, but it is not a product database.
Many EAN, UPC and GTIN-style barcode numbers end with a calculated check digit. Barqode can verify that digit and identify the likely barcode family from the number length.
That does not prove who owns the number or what product it belongs to. For official company, license or product information, use GS1's own verification tools.
Does a valid check digit mean the barcode is official?
No. A valid check digit only means the number is technically well formed. It does not prove that the GTIN is assigned, licensed or correct for a product.
Can a barcode prefix tell me the product country?
Not reliably. GS1 prefixes relate to numbering organizations and allocation, not necessarily the country where a product was made.
